GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: This position involves the performance of a variety of tasks in support of enhancing student academic achievement . This employee is expected to interact with students in an appropriate manner while maintaining discipline. There is considerable contact with staff and students. AVID Assistants monitor and assist students academically under the direction of a certified staff member and perform related tasks. An employee in this position works with clearly established systems and procedures, must exhibit organizational skills and exercise independent judgment and confidentiality in the performance of duties. The Avid Assistant must exhibit initiative and embrace a collaborative team approach to accomplish the mission of the district. QUALIFICATIONS: Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent. Must have physical ability to lift/move supplies, materials and office equipment up to 40 lbs. Must sit at workstation for extended period of time and/or move frequently from workstation to various other areas of building. Must organize and prioritize workflow. Must be proficient in the use of computers, office practices, procedures and office equipment. Must project a positive image of the district to students, staff and parents as well as exhibit a positive employee attitude. Must demonstrate appropriate interpersonal skills, and communicate clearly and respectfully with students, staff, parents, visitors and the general public. Must have awareness of a variety of student needs including physical and social emotional needs. Experience or training which provides knowledge of the subject matter (study skills, college prep). POSITION EXPECTATIONS: 3. Assisting students in tutorial sessions by performing the following duties but not limited to: a. providing individualized or small-group tutoring at the direction of licensed teachers b. monitoring student's work c. keeping records of student attendance and participation d. attending one day-long AVID Tutorology training session prior to assuming duties e. helping organize field trips and perform some administrative duties as needed 2. Participating in appropriate professional development activities in order to enhance job performance. 3. Position Summary The studio assistance provides faculty and student support for the woodshop, sculpture, printmaking and painting areas in Wilson Hall. The technician will support faculty's curricular needs and provide safety training for the use of wood shop equipment, art making tools, and kiln. This position is subject to change based on curricular needs and scheduling. The weekly schedule is flexible but does require mainly evening and weekend availability. Compensation is $30 an hour, approximately 10 hours a week. Duties and Responsibilities Supervise and mentor students during regular open studio hours and scheduled studio appointments. (min of 8 hours per week) Instruct students in safety programs and procedures to ensure the proper use of tools, equipment, and machinery during open studio hours. Assist with the organization and inventory of studio supplies Coordinate with faculty to support students needing additional assistance outside of traditional class instruction time, including students with accommodations. Support faculty with student retention and success. Provide assistance with student gallery installations as needed. Requirements Required: MFA in Studio Art or relevant work experience will be considered. One to three years of experience in a variety of woodworking, model making, and art processes. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills. Able to work effectively with a diverse student, staff and faculty populace of varying abilities. Desired: Experience working with kilns.
