MIDDLE SCHOOL TEACHER QUALIFICATIONS: Holds or is eligible for a New Jersey Instructional Certificate with appropriate endorsement (i.e.: Elementary K-5 with Math/Language Arts Literacy/Science/Social Studies Specialization in grades 5-8; Teacher of Mathematics/Language Arts Literacy/Science/Social Studies; Teacher of Students with Disabilities or Teacher of the Handicapped). REPORTS TO: Principal JOB GOAL: Instructs assigned pupils in accordance with curriculum adopted by the Board of Education. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: * Demonstrates competence in subject field(s) assigned and deemed highly qualified per standards established by NJDOE. * Provides activities and experiences to meet the needs, interests and abilities of students. * Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students. * Employs instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting stated objectives. * Assesses the academic and behavioral status of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required. * Participates in identifying and meeting pupil needs in cooperation with other professional staff members. * Establishes and maintains, with the support of administrators, standards of pupil behavior appropriate to the activity. * Maintains professional competence through participation in inservice education activities provided by the district and/or self-selected professional growth activities. * Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required. * Prepares for classes assigned and develops general lesson plans related to established curriculum goals. * Takes reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities. * Maintains accurate and complete records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulations. * Makes a reasonable effort to cooperate professionally with other members of the staff. * Assists in the selection of books, equipment and other instructional materials. * Satisfactorily fulfills duty assignments during the course of the school day as assigned. * Works to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning both the broad academic and behavioral progress of all assigned students. * Establishes and maintains cooperative relations with others. * Participates in professional growth through an ongoing program of reading, workshops, seminars, conferences, and/or advanced course work at institutions of higher learning. * Performs such other tasks as may be from time to time assigned by the Principal or his/her Assistants within the scope of his/her employment and/or certification areas. COMPENSATION: The per diem rate established as budgeted and approved by the Board of Education for Substitute Teachers. $126.50 - Days 1- 30 $165.00 - Days 31-90 $220.00 - Days 91 + Additional compensation of $25 per day after Day 20 of a Long Term Assignment. PARAPROFESSIONAL II - Instructional Assistant QUALIFICATIONS: * Passing score on the Para Pro Assessment or 48 college credits. * Successful completion of criminal history background check. * Proof of US citizenship. * High school diploma or equivalent. * Ability to read, write and speak English and perform simple math. * Must be physically able to efficiently perform the duties of the position. Any physical disability which would cause the candidate to be a hazard to themselves or to others is considered disqualifying. * Ability to hear conversational voice, with or without hearing aid. * Good vision, with or without glasses. * Ability to follow written or oral directions. * Ability to work with all types of students under varied conditions. * Previous experience working with children in various activity circumstances, preferred. * Endeavors to obtain background in related fields of education. REPORTS TO: Principal Instructional Supervisor- Special Education Director of Special Services PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: * Supervise student(s) and assist the teacher when necessary. * Keep student(s) on task for the programs taught by the teacher. * Reinforce appropriate behavior in accordance with the teacher's plan. * Review/reinforce skills in the classroom (small groups, one-on-one instruction). * Assist student(s) in the classroom (i.e. hand over hand for handwriting). * Assist student(s) with feeding, if necessary. * Assist student(s) with toileting/dressing, if needed. * Listen and read to students. * After each activity, assist with clean-up process so that the next activity can be started effectively and quickly. * Prepare instructional materials. * General office duties (i.e. duplicating, sorting, distributing, filing). * Assist with playground supervision, bus loading/unloading, monitor the lunchroom, or other duties assigned by the Principal. COMPENSATION: In accordance with GTSPA contract. ($19,168 - $27,008 per year. Final compensation will be based on experience and qualifications.)
