TVW company history timeline

1967

Bill applied to TVW Channel 7 in Perth in 1967 and was appointed head cameraman following interviews by Darcy Farrell, the Seven news editor and Film Manager Bill McKenzie, who travelled to Brisbane to meet with Bill.

1968

The retirement of James Macartney in 1968 and the subsequent take over of WA Newspapers by the Herald and Weekly Times provided Jim with the opportunity for expansion.

Interestingly, when Sir Frank Packer closed the special projects division in 1968, Raymond established his own company and began making documentaries for the Seven Network.

1971

In 1971 TVW Enterprises purchased SAS-10 in Adelaide, now SAS-7.

1975

Reversal was also used for colour film, once colour TV was introduced in 1975.

After the advent of colour television hit Western Australia in 1975, all news film cameras shot colour film.

1979

Keith Mackenzie, John Hudson, Don Rowe and Bill Meacham formed a production company called Threshold in 1979.

C-SPAN blazed the trail for unedited gavel-to-gavel coverage of government deliberations when it was created in 1979 to cover the federal government.

1981

She had undergone surgery for a heart valve replacement early in 1981 but as the decade ended, the pig’s valve which had been inserted had begun to fail.

During the years up until 1981 when Jim stepped down from running local media, he lent his name and expertise to numerous worthy causes and events — the first president of Taverners, surf life saving, the Festival of Perth, the Australian Open golf and so on.

1982

In 1982 TVW and SAS were purchased by Bell Group.

1988

In 1988, Perth finally got full network service when NEW signed on and aligned with Ten.

In 1988, TVW was sold to Qintex.

1989

Jim and Sheila both missed family and home, and so it was that in 1989 they returned to Perth.

1990

On their return to Perth in 1990 they moved into a new family home in Bird Street, Mosman Park.

When the fledgling Telethon Kids Institute was struggling for funding in the early 1990’s, he joined the Board long enough to spearhead its pivotal capital raising campaign and recruit new board members.

1995

TVW made history with the first-ever televised state court proceeding when it went on the air April 10, 1995, televising a death penalty case being heard by the Washington State Supreme Court.

1996

1996 –Communicator Award for First Branch.

1999

1999 –Northwest Regional Emmy Award for “Supreme Justice” –Vision Award National Finalist for “Lewis and Clark in Washington State” –Videographer of the Year Award for “Supreme Justice” –Seattle Chapter Emerald City award for “Supreme Justice”

2002

2002 –Telly Award for The House of Poverty Museum –Six national awards for Trust and Government series

2004

2004 –Washington: Reconcilable Differences? nominated for a regional Emmy Award –Telly Award in 2004 for a Faces and Places segment entitled Capitol Stonework

2005

2005 –Aurora Award Gold for “WSU Veterinary School” Faces and Places –Lind Combine Demolition Derby finalist for regional Emmy Award –Videographer Award for original music for TVW’s UW From the Forum Series Open –Telly Awards: Tulalip Veterans’ Powwow and Lind Combine Demolition Derby

2006

Stokes bought a 15 percent stake in West Australian newspapers in 2006.

2008

2008 –Northwest Regional Emmy Nomination for “Engaged: Students Becoming Citizens”

2009

The First 50 Years - TVW Channel 7 tonight at 8:30pm (Friday October 16th, 2009)

2011

2011 –Northwest Regional Emmy Nomination for “Capitol Classroom”

In 2011, West Australian Newspapers bought the Seven Network to form Seven West Media, thus fully reuniting TVW with its founding owner.

2012

2012 –Seattle CityClub Colleen Willoughby Youth Civic Education Award for “Capitol Classroom”

2015

In February 2015, TVW moved from their original broadcasting facility in Gay Street, Dianella to a new HD broadcast centre in Osborne Park located within West Australian Newspapers.

Died; Sir Charles Gardiner Hospital, Perth 11th April 2015

One of the many wives doing their part was Stan Fildes’s beloved wife Lois, who sadly passed away on Monday 3rd August, 2015.

The Funeral for the late Mrs Joanne Crilly of Karrinyup will assemble at the East Chapel in PINNAROO VALLEY Memorial Park, Whitfords Avenue, Padbury for a Cremation Service to commence at 2.30pm on TUESDAY (21.07.2015).
