U.S. Naval Academy Alumni Assoc & Foundation company history timeline

1919

The change honors Louis I. Bannan, S.J., and the Bannan family, more than 200 of whom attended classes, married in the Mission, been christened in the chapel, given generously since 1919.

1924

In 1924, Catherine Donohoe contributed $40,000 to build the Donohoe Infirmary in honor of her parents, James and Rose Donohoe.

1936

Maurice Heymann, a Lafayette businessman, hired A. Hays Town to build this house for his family in 1936.

Even though it was built in 1936, its beauty is timeless.

1972

The Bright House became the Alumni House in 1972 after the Society of the Alumni, (now the W&M Alumni Association) embarked on a campaign to raise funds for renovations.

1974

In 1974, Louis I. Bannan, S.J., assistant to the president for alumni affairs, wrote a letter to Fr.

1975

In 1975, the Alumni Association moved into the first floor of Donohoe.

Since 1975, the Alumni House has provided a place for past and present Broncos to renew friendships, relive fond memories, and become acquainted with new campus developments.

1978

The kitchen, conference room, and second floor were remodeled in 1978, thanks largely to contributions from alumni and the Donohoe Alumni House Renovation Committee.

1991

The Alumni Center has been the home of the Alumni Association and University Advancement division since the Association purchased it from Herbert Heymann in 1991.

1994

However, in an interview in 1994, Town was quoted as saying that the Heymann house was probably the best structure he had ever designed.

Renovations to the home and surrounding grounds began in 1994, turning the landmark into one of the major focal points of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette’s campus.

1997

7, 1997, International Services and the Admissions Office moved in.

1998

In 1998, the wing housing the Alumni Association staff was dedicated in United States Senator John Breaux’s name.

2002

With its opening in 2002, the dream of having an alumni house became a reality.

2005

In 2005, International Services moved out of the building.

2009

Until 2009, the second floor served as offices for other various University departments.

2012

The Robert D. Buchanan Alumni House celebrated its 10th anniversary during Reunion Weekend in June 2012.

2019

On March 23, 2019, the building was renamed the Bannan Alumni House.
