Job Summary:
The Airway, Trauma, Lung Injury, and Sepsis Research Program (ATLAS) in the Department of Emergency Medicine have an opening for a full-time University Staff (unclassified) Research Services Senior- Principal Professional (Clinical Research RegisteredNurse) position. ATLAS conducts clinical research, focusing on clinical trials, and real-world data studies in the acute care setting with a particular focus on early interventions for critically ill and injured patients. ATLAS leverages its network of global collaborators to lead multi-site clinical trials. ATLAS receives significant funding from the NIH, DOD, and CDC.
The Department of Emergency Medicine and ATLAS lab seeks motivated applicants for the position of Clinical Science Professional. This role will engage patients, families, and clinical staff at the University of Colorado Hospital, manage study start-up and documentation for clinical trials, collaborate with clinical and research teams working to improve care of critically ill and injured patients. The projects focus on patients in the Emergency Department and Intensive Care Units with critically ill patients, including covid-19, Influenza, sepsis, major trauma and acute respiratory failure. The ideal candidate will have experience within research (clinical or laboratory), collaborate effectively on multidisciplinary teams, and be highly detail-oriented.
Key Responsibilities:
Senior Level:
Assist with developing or develops protocol-specific systems and documents including process flows, training manuals, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Case Report Forms (CRFs). Maintains subject level documentation and prepares documents, equipment and/or supplies
Assist with identifying issues related to operational efficiency and shares results with leadership
Collect information to determine feasibility, recruitment and retention strategies. Employ, evaluate and assist with the implementation of innovative solutions to maximize recruitment and retention
Serve as a resource and participate in study initiation and close out duties
Principal Level, all of the above and\:
Coordinate and administer patient care in compliance with protocol requirements
Disburse investigation drug and provide patient education regarding administration
Oversee the preparation of orders by physicians to assure that protocol compliance is maintained. Independently review patients for changes in condition, adverse events, concomitant medication use, protocol compliance, response to study drug and thoroughly document and report all findings to physician and care team
Additional Duties & Responsibilities
Manage and conduct moderately complex research activities that are part of larger project from initiation to close.
Create complex data management and tracking tools (REDCap, Excel) to support tracking of project/recruitment activities.
Oversee student worker(s) or junior PRAs as it relates to a specific project.
Participate in instrument creation (REDCap) and/or analytical structures as appropriate to the project.
Collect study data via complex patient visits, surveys, observations or focus groups. Provide leadership in data collection to other PRAs and students.
Participate in audits, monitoring visits, and quality control checks of data collection, equipment maintenance, and study procedures.
Help develop study findings for presentation to team and external audiences.
May lead publication development (abstract/manuscript)
Help with budget management/tracking (under direction of PM/PI)
Lead manuscript preparation for publication or presentation in scientific forums.
Work with members of the UCD and UCHealth community as needed to set up labs, participant visits, and access shared University resources.
Manage study participant incentive program with the assistance of procurement.
Work Location:
Hybrid - this role is eligible for a hybrid schedule of #4 days per week on campus and as needed for in-person meetings.

The position is also responsible for collecting urinalysis specimens from patients (observation of same-sex urine specimen provision), as well as conducting breathalyzer testing of patients and recording the results.
This position requires working at all three of the ARTS locations, on a rotating schedule throughout the week.
Standard working hours are Monday through Friday, 5:00am to 1:30pm or 5:00am -5:30pm.
This position may work periodically on some Saturdays from 5:00am to 10:00am, based on the need of the agency, not to exceed 40 hours per week.
Key Responsibilities:Assess patients for appropriateness of treatment.
Assess patients' needs for physical exams and report observations to physicians and/or counselors.
Administer medication such as: Methadone, Suboxone, Naltrexone, Antabuse, and extended-release injectable naltrexone to patients.
Transport narcotic medication in a manner consistent with DEA, State, and Federal, rules and regulations, while abiding by ARTS policies and procedures to include but not limited to using a lock box.
Delivery locations will include correctional facilities, rehabilitation centers, inpatient treatment facilities, or any location deemed appropriate by ARTS.
Monitor each patient's vital signs and health condition.
Draw blood for analysis/labs, obtain test results, and administer TB tests.
Assess adverse reactions to medications, and issues relating to drug overdose, HIV, and/or HCV.
Handle infectious materials, human blood, or other body fluids according to applicable policy and procedures.
Other duties as assigned by Program Director of MAT and Nurse Programs.
Work Location:Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite at ARTS clinic locations located in Denver, Arvada, and Aurora, as well as potential periodic duty on the ARTS Medication Mobile Unit.
