General Description
Our fellowship offers a unique occupational therapy approach to address the complex needs of individuals with acquired brain injuries (ABI) and their families. This 12-month post-professional program is focused in the outpatient neurorehabilitation setting, with experiential learning opportunities in acute care and inpatient rehabilitation. Qualifications
* Associate's degree required.
* 1 year of relevant experience preferred.
* Licensed Occupational Therapy Assistant in the state of Maryland
* Current ACLS or BCLS certification
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
* Proficient knowledge of occupational therapy theory and practice techniques. General knowledge of orthopedics, plastics, pediatrics, neurology, psychology, psychiatry, anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, general medicine and the occupational therapy treatment implications of each.
* Ability to oversee and direct the work of occupational therapy and support staff.
* Highly effective verbal and written communication skills are required in order to work with patients, therapists, medical and nursing staff successfully and to document patient progress, quality assurance activities.
* Highly effective verbal communication skills including courtesy, resourcefulness and efficiency in answering questions, giving directions, locating staff and explaining hospital/departmental policies and procedures are necessary. Verbal communication skills may include communicating with an interdisciplinary team, patients, and families. Effective writing skills are also required in order to take messages and maintain miscellaneous records, receipts, reports and logs.

Delivers limited psychiatric occupational therapy occupational therapy services under the periodic supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist. Carries out treatment plans according to the principles and practices of occupational therapy.

Primary Responsibilities

* Performs limited occupational therapy services to patients in accordance with generally accepted standards, Maryland Department of Health Board of Occupational Therapy Practice, code of ethics, and departmental and/or organizational policies and procedures
* Carries out treatment plan programs for clients/patients to promote health, well-being, and the patient's ability to participate in the important activities in their life.
* Records patient data for re-evaluations and care provided in the medical record in accordance with departmental documentation standards.
* Informs patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members of progress and plan for treatment and refers for further evaluation.
* Provides therapy education and counseling to individuals.
* Provides mentorship and training to clinical team members and/or students as eligible based on departmental needs.
* Participates in performance improvement activities and suggests areas for improvement to colleagues in a tactful and considerate manner. Proposes performance improvement topics and alternate treatment techniques to improve therapy services.
* Reports clinical and operational issues to departmental leadership and assists in their resolution to assure high quality care and efficient departmental operations.
