What Does Placement Look Like Post-GNRP?
* Upon completion of the Graduate Nurse Rotational Program, placements are determined by participant preference, Hiring Manager preference, and business need through a collaborative matching process at UPMC Williamsport.

* Triage any questions subjects may have regarding protocol specifics, investigational products, lab results, effects of therapies, medications, and symptom management within clinical scope and level of expertise and referring other questions to the PI or medical team in order to obtain guidance or assistance.
* If needed, collect, review and report timely, valid, accurate study data within the timelines specified by the Clinical Trials Agreement. Coordination may also include: transporting specimens, submission of study documents to all applicable institutional committees (e.g., IRB, CTSRMC, IBC, CHPS) for initial approval, continuing reviews and for approval of any amendments.
* Provide coverage and support to other research nurses and coordinators to meet departmental/organizational staffing needs.
* This position will require the research nurse to have a variable schedule. Research subjects are seen in the clinical setting during early morning and early evening hours as well as daytime visits. Position involves work-related responsibilities that may occur outside of usual hours and some conference-related travel.
QUALIFICATIONS:
* RegisteredNurse with licensure in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania without restriction or limitation. What Does Placement Look Like Post-GNRP?
Upon completion of the Graduate Nurse Rotational Program, placements are determined by participant preference, Hiring Manager preference, and business need through a collaborative matching process at UPMC Jameson.

Shift/Hours: Our RNs work a rotating 12-hour schedule to ensure 24/7 coverage on the floor.

* Oncology (5800) is a 28-bed medical and surgical oncology unit caring for a variety on oncology patients but specializing in gynecological cancer treatments and surgical procedures such as hysterectomies, mastectomies, Syed implants, and free flap/TRAM flap transplants. Many of our patients are admitted to receive chemotherapy, and some may require chemo desensitization. On our unit, we work with negative pressure rooms, disability/bariatric rooms featuring motorized lifts, and telemetry monitors. We consider strong teamwork to be central to our success on 5800 and vital to caring for our patients, and we boast a staff with a wide range of experience.
* Orthopedics (4100) is a 30-bed medical-surgical orthopedic unit that primarily cares for patients who have undergone elective surgeries such as hip and knee replacements, and we also receive all of Magee's post-op bariatric surgery patients. We frequently use specialty orthopedic equipment such as continuous passive motion machines and bed trapezes. This is a patient-centered rehabilitative unit, a great environment for someone who wants to be directly involved in rehab as well as care; we also receive an overflow of general med-surg patients, making 4100 a perfect fit for graduate nurses and nurses seeking to build broad knowledge and/or gain new experience.
* Acute Care 3200 is a 24-bed medical-surgical telemetry unit that cares for a wide variety of medical and post-op patients to include short stay patients. Although we are a women's hospital, we care for both women and men in a compassionate, supportive, high-tech environment, utilizing protocols to enable both patient and staff safety. Our post-op patients may be recovering from orthopedic, vascular, urological, gynecological, or bariatric surgeries. Due to the wide variety of services, we offer and medical conditions we see, 3200 is a great fit for graduate nurses and nurses seeking to build broad knowledge and/or gain new experience.
* Acute Care 5300 is a 28-bed medical-surgical unit that cares for a wide variety of medical and post-op patients and serves as Magee's stepdown unit. We see an extremely diverse patient population, with ages ranging from 15-100+. Many patients receive insulin and/or Cardezim drips, and all the unit's 28 beds are housed in private rooms, each hardwired for telemetry monitoring. Our post-op patients may be recovering from orthopedic, vascular, urological, gynecological, or bariatric surgeries; we also frequently receive overflow surgical patients who do not have beds available on their specialty unit. Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Additional License Requirements: Annual completion of a professional contribution selected from department, hospital or system gals, and approved by Unit Director AND either: UPMC approved nursing certification required within 1 year of hire/transfer and must be maintained. Certification not required if Master's in nursing or DNP is held. If a BSN is held, a Master's degree in a related field may be substituted in lieu of Certification. CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire. Current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse either in the state where the facility is located or in a state covered by a licensure compact agreement with the state where the facility is located.

About the Program
UPMC's Student Nurse Internship (SNI) program allows you to put what you learned in nursing school into practice by working side-by-side with a preceptor. This is a temporary 10-week paid opportunity during the Summer of 2026.
During the internship you will have the opportunity to:
* Work one-on-one with a trained preceptor to see a day in the life of a nurse at UPMC
* Participate in supplementary educational sessions to continue your learning journey
* Build your confidence as a future nurse
* Work at one hospital for the summer (*Assignment shared at time of offer)
* Shadow at least one additional area of nursing at your hospital placement
* Work up to 40 hours/week (*SNIs follow their preceptor's schedule; we understand obligations may not permit you to work a full-time schedule, we can accommodate!)

Qualifications:
Qualifications
* Currently enrolled in a Nursing Program (Diploma, Associates or BSN) with an expected graduation date of Fall 2026, Spring 2027 or Summer 2027 required
* Attendance required at SNI Program Orientation (May 18-22) and End of Summer Event (Friday, July 24)
* Availability to work throughout the summer with minimal absence required (schedule flexibility can be accommodated)
* Cumulative GPA of 3.0 strongly preferred
* Preference will be given to students wanting to pursue a nursing career at UPMC upon graduation
Licensure/Certifications
* Active American Heart Association (AHA) OR American Red Cross BLS certification throughout the entire summer is required
* SNIs must bring current AHA CPR certification to orientation.
* All cards should specify that the course is for healthcare workers, professional rescuers, or is a BLS course. Community and First Aide cards cannot be accepted.
* Additional clearances may be required based on location and specialty
* Specific instructions will be provided during the onboarding process
