Job Description SummaryNOAA Living Marine Resources Cooperative Science Center (LMRCSC) The Department of Natural Sciences invites applications for a full-time, twelve-month tenure-track or tenured faculty position of NOAA LMRCSC Distinguished Research Scientist. The Department of Natural Sciences offers B.S. degrees in various disciplines, and M.S and Ph.D. interdisciplinary programs in Marine-Estuarine Environmental Sciences (MEES), and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Toxicology.
Responsibilities:
• Provide leadership to expand the Center's research work in NOAA fisheries
related areas.
• Facilitate and coordinate research among the Center partner institutions
and with NOAA Fisheries.
• Seek and attract external funding to support the LMRCSC as well as assist
and involve other faculty and students in promoting research and
scholarship.
• Coordinate the annual LMRCSC Science meetings, Request for Proposals
(RFP), and proposal review process conducted by the Center's Technical
Advisory Board.
• Facilitate student professional development.
• Serve as the Center's point of contact for initiating student Experiential
Research Training Opportunities at NOAA.
• Conduct research in his/her field of expertise.
• Recruit and mentor graduate students.
• Publish in scholarly journals.
• Teach one course a semester in his/her area of specialty.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
• Ph.D. in marine science, fisheries science, biology or zoology, from a
regionally accredited institution of higher education.
• At least ten years of successful teaching and/or research experience in a
university, federal or state agency.
• Significant record of grantsmanship, research, and publication in marine
and/or fisheries sciences.
• Evidence of participation in professional organizations.

Research Scholar Position in Medical Image Processing (Deep Learning for Trauma CT)
The Trauma Radiology AI Lab (TRAIL) in the Department of Radiology & Nuclear Medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine is a new collaborative and supportive environment for investigators who are conducting cutting-edge imaging research and development (R&D) of CADt, CADe, and CADx-type tools with strong translational potential for rapid detection/triage, injury grading, and quantitative visualization of hemorrhage burden. We are currently recruiting motivated Research Scholars with a master's degree (or equivalent) and a background in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or related fields.
Candidates who have experience with MICCAI or RSNA CT challenge datasets such as RibFrac, the RSNA pulmonary embolus CT dataset, or the RSNA abdominal trauma CT dataset, or are otherwise technically proficient with imbalanced cross-sectional imaging data are especially well-suited for the position
. The postdoctoral researchers will develop algorithms for deployment at our prestigious R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center and beyond, and there is ample opportunity to present, publish, and kickstart a fruitful career in academia or industry in the area of medical image processing. The work will be conducted through an NIH-funded study on these topics:
1) R&D for CT-based tools using CNN or ViT backbones for classification or object detection of hemorrhage-related pathologies including cavitary hemorrhage, solid organ injury, and bleeding pelvic fractures using a very large in-house CT dataset with high-quality labeling and outcome data.
2) Training and validation of state-of-the-art segmentation models for multiscale tasks, with targets including organ lacerations, cavitary pooled hemorrhage, and active bleeding.
3) One additional position focuses on evaluating user acceptance of tools by working with radiology and trauma surgery experts in the field. For this position, we are looking specifically for candidates with experience developing web-based interactive user interfaces for the above tools.

Postdoctoral Fellow for Cardiovascular Development and Regeneration
A Fulltime Postdoctoral Fellow position is immediately available in Dr. Deqiang Li's Laboratory, in the Center for Vascular and Inflammatory Diseases at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. This position is supported by a newly awarded NIH R01 grant and an American Heart Association foundational award.
Research in my laboratory is focused on understanding the mechanisms of cardiovascular development and disease. In particular, we are interested in identifying the novel signaling pathways that regulate myocardial development or govern cardiomyocyte differentiation and maturation by using in vitro and in vivo approaches.
Cell and mouse model systems, including induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) and conditional gene knockouts will be used in these research projects. Many state-of-the-art techniques are employed, such as CRISPR/Cas9 Genome Editing, AAV, single cell RNA-Seq and ChIP Seq, confocal microscopy, multicolor flow and sorting, surgical models, ultrasonic and telemetric measurements of cardiovascular function in mice.
The University of Maryland School of Medicine was ranked 12th in U.S. News and World Report's 2021 rankings of "Best Medical Schools\: Primary Care", and 34th in "Best Medical Schools\: Research". It is located in the downtown of Baltimore city, part of greater Baltimore-Washington DC area, within 40 miles to the NIH. Job Description SummaryOrganization's Summary Statement: The Applied Research Laboratory for Intelligence and Security (ARLIS), based at the University of Maryland College Park, was established in 2018 under the auspices of the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence (USDI) to be a strategic asset for research and development in social systems, autonomy and augmentation, and advanced computing. One of only 15 designated Department of Defense University Affiliated Research Centers (UARCs) in the nation and the only UARC focused on supporting the intelligence community, ARLIS conducts both unclassified and classified research spanning from basic to applied system development and works to serve the US Government as an independent and objective trusted agent.
ARLIS research is driven by a cadre of research scientists and engineers, faculty research specialists and project engineers, further supported by senior University of Maryland faculty and a consortium of university partners. Research is typically conducted through teams of e.g. social scientists, computer scientists, psychologists, linguists, cognitive neuroscientists, applied mathematicians, political scientists, policy analysts, and systems engineers.
The Assistant/Associate Research Scientist will support ARLIS's applied research efforts in computer vision and cognitive/affective science. This role is focused on designing, developing, and evaluating advanced computer vision algorithms and prototypes that address real-world defense and national security challenges. The ideal candidate will possess strong experience in computational modeling and AI/ML systems, contributing to both early-stage research and deployable solutions.
Must be able to obtain a U.S. security clearance. If selected, you must meet the requirements for access to classified information and will be subject to a government security clearance investigation that includes criminal and credit history checks, as well as verification of U.S. citizenship, birth, education, employment, and military history.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement computer vision models for real-time and offline applications
- Evaluate and optimize algorithm performance across diverse datasets and domains
-Apply principles of both computer vision and psychology to create empirically rigorous, applied solutions for DOW stakeholders
- Collaborate with teams on AI/ML integration and system architecture
- Support technical documentation, reports, and presentation of research outcomes
