Description
Under the general direction of management, the SystemsAnalyst - Senior (Application Portfolio Management) provides advanced analytical services to support Application Portfolio Management (APM) and ServiceNow-based portfolio capabilities. This role focuses on enabling decision-ready visibility into the application landscape by supporting application ownership coordination, lifecycle intent, business service alignment, and portfolio data stewardship.
The role works closely with Enterprise Architecture, CMDB/ITOM, Finance, TBM, BRM, platform teams, and application owners to improve decision quality, reduce downstream operational friction, and ensure portfolio data supports governance and investment decisions. This position is a remote position, with opportunity for weekly onsite collaboration.
Responsibilities
* Application Portfolio Management & Stewardship: Maintain decision-grade application portfolio records within ServiceNow. Ensure business and IT application ownership is identified, current, and engaged. Coordinate application lifecycle intent updates (e.g., invest, tolerate, retire) in alignment with governance processes. Support application tiering, segmentation, and portfolio grouping activities. Track lifecycle progress, review dates, and documented outcomes over time.
* Portfolio Decision Enablement: Prepare application context to support renewal, enhancement, integration, and rationalization discussions. Identify missing or inconsistent information that blocks effective portfolio decisions. Document portfolio decisions, rationale, and defined revisit points in ServiceNow and related artifacts. Support rationalization analysis cycles as defined by portfolio governance.
* Business Service Alignment (Foundational Support): Support a time-bound foundational alignment of applications to approved Business Services to establish a decision-ready portfolio baseline. Validate application-to-service alignment and identify service definition issues that materially impact portfolio decisions. Surface gaps, overlaps, or misalignment for review by APM and service owners.
* Rationalization & Lifecycle Support: Identify rationalization candidates using agreed governance criteria. Flag applications requiring improved dependency confidence for governance awareness. Support safe retirement planning activities (planning and analysis only; execution owned elsewhere). Coordinate lifecycle-related inputs across stakeholders without assuming operational ownership.
* ServiceNow Platform Enablement: Maintain APM-related fields, views, reports, and portfolio data standards in ServiceNow. Partner with ServiceNow platform teams to improve usability, data quality, and decision support. Build and maintain portfolio dashboards and views focused on enabling decisions rather than operational metrics. Support governance workflows tied to portfolio events and lifecycle changes.
* Data Quality, and Process Improvement: Demonstrate a proficient understanding of the application lifecycle. Maintain high standards of data quality, validity, and confidentiality. Identify opportunities for process improvement related to portfolio, lifecycle, and governance workflows. Create and maintain documentation supporting portfolio processes and standards.
* Cross-Functional Collaboration & Communication: Work with Enterprise Architecture to support onboarding outcomes and standards alignment. Coordinate with CMDB/ITOM teams to consume dependency and discovery outputs, without owning technical discovery or remediation. Communicate clearly and effectively in written and verbal form to support collaboration and decision-making. Mentor less experienced team members and contribute to a team-first culture.
* Training, Self-Development, and Professional Growth: Develop training materials and provide guidance related to portfolio processes and ServiceNow capabilities. Participate in ongoing training, self-study, and professional development to stay current with industry and organizational trends. Seek and incorporate feedback from senior team members to improve performance and effectiveness.
