Vail Transportation Center company history timeline
Charlie Vail, the project's engineer, lent his name to the road--the Vail Pass--and eventually to the Town of Vail, too. It remained a peaceful home for sheep ranchers until 1939, when construction began on Highway 6, running from Denver through the Gore Valley.
In 1954, Earl Eaton, a uranium prospector with a similar vision, teamed up with Seibert to draw up a plan for a ski resort.
Formed in 1976 the museum displays photographs, artefacts and equipment and gives a historical insight into how the sport has been developed and pioneered within Colorado.
Another milestone occurred in 2005 with the start of Vail’s Billion Dollar Renewal when more than half the town’s commercial areas received a facelift following an infusion of private and public sector investments.
Vail is also poised to pursue a series of sustainability initiatives to significantly reduce its carbon footprint by the year 2020 with messages of inspiration and embrace through its “Love Vail” campaign.
