Job Summary
Are you energized by solving problems and improving how things are made? As a Quality Engineer Intern at Vermeer, you'll support real-world projects that enhance production processes and drive operational excellence. This internship offers hands-on experience in monitoring, analyzing, problem solving, and improving product performance-preparing you for a full-time engineering role upon graduation.
What You'll Do
1. Review and analyze internal and external quality performance for whole goods, upstream production, plant quality, and/or supplier quality; communicate trends and findings to manufacturing leadership.
2. Support Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) and problem-solving activities for assigned issues; help implement solutions to reduce quality issues and defects.
3. Assist in executing and auditing control plans and manufacturing processes for compliance and effectiveness; partner with manufacturingengineering to implement mistake-proofing and process improvements.
4. Collaborate with suppliers to problem-solve and verify quality improvements.
5. Participate in process capability studies and continuous improvement activities with process engineering, including Statistical Process Control (SPC) methods such as Process Capability Index (CPK) and control charts using statistical software such as Minitab (or similar).
6. Support critical Quality Management System (QMS) processes and participate in quality improvement projects and teams.
What We're Looking For
- High School diploma required. Current student pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
- Awareness of quality tools and techniques, such as Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), Core Tools, SPC methods, and CPK, with exposure to statistical software such as Minitab (or similar).
- Awareness of lean manufacturing principles and using Lean Sigma/Six Sigma methodology to improve quality, including Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control (DMAIC).
- Experience with troubleshooting and root cause analysis; exposure to Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Eight Disciplines (8D) problem solving preferred.
- Ability to work in a team environment, operate assembly and measurement tools and devices, and read prints and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
Travel
- No travel is expected of this position.
Work Location
ONSITE: A team member's day-to-day work is best done on a Vermeer campus. If work content can be occasionally completed at an offsite location, discuss potential arrangements with your manager.

Your Skills and Expertise:
To ensure your success from day one in this role, Justrite requires the following qualifications at a minimum:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, ManufacturingEngineering, Industrial Engineering or similar Engineering discipline required. Courses in Production and Process Engineering would be a plus.
Knowledge and experience in the areas of automated forming equipment, automated welding, blanking lines, and other fabrication processes including programming and troubleshooting of such processes would be a plus.
Experience working in a team environment preferably with a small to medium size company.
Experience with Solid Works or similar 3D CAD.
Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
Manufacturing Plant exposure helpful, but this position will be a learning environment drawing upon the in-house experience to ultimately create the next generation of products for our industry.
Experience in idea generation to reduce costs and improve quality would be a plus.
Experience working with Lean Manufacturing principles would also be a plus.
Familiarity with ERP software would be a plus.

Compensation:
The position offers a competitive base salary ranging from $68,000 to $74,000.
Actual base salaries will vary and may be above or below the recommended pay range based on factors such as but not limited to location, relevant experience and performance. Additionally, this role is eligible for an annual incentive plan to enhance their overall total compensation package when Justrite Safety Group and their business units achieve annual business and financial targets.

Help perform training of personnel in such processes.

Perform audits of Quality processes and Management System elements. Generate reports detailing any deficiencies that were identified.

Great Plains Manufacturing, a Kubota Company, is currently taking applications for our 2026 Summer Internship Program. These internships will be on-site in the Salina, KS area.
Our Summer Interns work full-time from Mid-May to Early-August and earn $20 per hour. Engineering interns enjoy a 4-day work week with a work schedule of Monday to Thursday from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Housing is provided for interns who currently reside outside the Salina, KS area.
Each of our Summer Interns complete a project with a mentor and supportive peers, allowing them to apply their college knowledge in the workplace and gain practical work experience. We also organize activities during the summer to give you the opportunity to get to know other interns and Great Plains employees through casual events like laser tag, paintball, bowling, and community events.
Our ManufacturingEngineer Interns will be assigned to one of our facilities in the Salina, KS area and work on a project in ManufacturingEngineering as it relates to manufacturing agricultural or construction equipment.
Required Qualifications:
Currently enrolled in a bachelor's degree program in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Ag Systems or other relevant Engineering major
Willingness to live within commuting distance of the assigned location, typically in the Salina, KS or Abilene, KS area for the duration of the Summer
Housing will be provided within a 20-mile radius of your assigned location, if needed.
Ability to work full-time on-site (40 hours/week) during the Summer
Successful completion of a pre-employment physical examination and drug screening test within a week of your first day of employment
Providing, upon your first day of employment, satisfactory proof of identity and legal authorization to work in the United States, and your completion of an Employment Eligibility Verification Form I-9
Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to travel to the Salina, KS area and commute to and from work and activities throughout the Summer
