Work Shift
1 - First ShiftParticipants in the Engineering Development Program will complete a 7-8 week training experience that provides an overview of engineering and manufacturing processes at Vermeer. During this program, participants will complete experiential, hands-on, classroom, and self-paced educational opportunities to accelerate their professional development. Upon successful completion of the program, participants will be assigned to a Manufacturing Engineer role as described below. The Manufacturing Engineer leads manufacturing-focused projects from inception to completion by supporting and implementing lean principles. This position seeks to understand the needs of the customer and drives projects to completion with limited supervision on tactical steps of the process. This position identifies, understands, and maps current and future state processes and understands the impact of the processes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Exhibit the Vermeer characteristics of caring culture, demonstrating agility, customer focused and stewardship while modeling the associated behaviors.
2. Act as a liaison between production and engineering through new product implementation and manufacturing improvement projects. Ensures reliable and consistent output based on standardized processes through project management and implementation.
3. Formulate documentation and sharing of best practices and standard work to improve flow of material and people throughout and across plants.
4. Develop, lead, and follow established standardization of methods, processes, and design features. Document current and future state processes to analyze impact across functional areas.
Education and/or Experience
- 4-year college degree in Industrial Technology or Mechanical/Industrial/Agricultural Engineering with intern/work experience in engineering, production, or construction.
- Or a High School Diploma with a minimum of 5 years manufacturing or engineering experience.
- Lean manufacturing, tooling design, and/or experience reading technical drawings preferred.
Other Skills and Abilities
- Ability to manage multiple projects and coordinate projects to meet established deadlines through multiple segments including, but not limited to, service, engineering, welding, assembly and machine shop across business segments.

Process Design & Improvement:
Design and improve manufacturing processes, procedures, and production layouts for assembly, fabrication, and material handling.

Develop and maintain standard work instructions, process flow diagrams, and manufacturing documentation.
Equipment & Facility Projects:
Develop detailed specifications for new manufacturing equipment and automation systems.
Manage the procurement process, including vendor selection, quoting, and capital justification (ROI analysis) as well as RFP and RFQ's.
Oversee the installation, commissioning, and validation of new equipment, ensuring it meets all performance and safety requirements.
Lead plant layout projects, using CAD software to design efficient and ergonomic work cells and facility flows.
Project Management:
Manage cross-functional engineering projects from inception to completion, ensuring they are delivered on time and within budget.
Coordinate with internal teams (operations, maintenance, quality) and external vendors to ensure successful project execution.
Develop project timelines, track milestones, and provide regular status updates to leadership.
Continuous Improvement & Lean Manufacturing:
Implement and champion lean manufacturing principles (e.g., 5S, Kaizen, Value Stream Mapping) across the facility.
Lead and participate in continuous improvement events and initiatives to drive a culture of operational excellence.
Use data analysis and root cause analysis tools to solve complex manufacturing problems.
Qualifications and Experience:
Required:
Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field
2-5 years of hands-on experience in a manufacturing engineering role within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
Proven experience with plant layouts, process design, and equipment installation projects.
Demonstrated experience with project management, including managing timelines and budgets.
Strong understanding and practical application of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement principles.
Proficiency with 2D/3D CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks).
Preferred:
Experience in an industrial environment, such as manufacturing.

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, talk or hear. The position is also regularly required to walk, use hands to grasp, hold, handle, reach with arms and hands, as well as stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to lift up to 50 pounds.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and heat while in the shop. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
Employee is expected to wear the required personal protective equipment when on the production floor.
