4 West is a fast paced intermediate and acute care unit consisting of post-operative thoracic patients and neuroscience step down patients. Our thoracic surgical patients are on the evidence based ERAS pathway and are up moving quickly, treated with multi modal pain control, and length of stay is between 3-4 days. We are also caring for overflow cardiac patients utilizing cardiac drips for rate control, multiple therapies for congestive heart failure, treating unstable angina and a variety of cardiac diagnosis. Post cardiac catheterization if TR Band is in place. In addition to our intermediate patient population, we care for a variety of medical patients with diagnoses that can include, but not limited to COPD, diabetes, pneumonia, and renal failure. We are a dynamic team that works well together and searching for likeminded individuals.

This stepdown unit specializes in the care of structural heart, cardiac and vascular surgical patients that require the titration of inotropes, vasopressors and/or patients with increased oxygen demands, needing advanced non-invasive oxygen delivery.
The Cardiovascular Stepdown Unit is designed for patients who have moved out of intensive care but need more frequent observation/interventions by nurses to proactively detect subtle changes in patients' condition and act quickly when patients show signs of deterioration. The design of the Cardiovascular Surgical Stepdown Unit mirrors the ICU layout and allows for quick access to resources within each workstation. Nurses can effectively communicate with advanced practice providers, floor assigned pharmacists and respiratory therapists that are present on the unit.
