Overnight ResidentialCounselor
Overnight ResidentialCounselors provide safety, structure, and emotional support for youth with significant emotional and behavioral challenges during some of the most difficult times in their lives. By building trusting relationships and creating a calm, home-like environment, you help youth feel secure, supported, and ready to work toward permanency and stability. This role is especially critical during evening and overnight hours, when consistency, responsiveness, and thoughtful intervention can make a meaningful difference in a young person's sense of safety and well-being.

Duties and Responsibilities
Provide overnight and evening supervision in a residential home for youth with significant emotional and behavioral needs.
Identify potential risk situations and use de-escalation strategies to support youth safely.
Implement individualized behavior and crisis plans consistently and compassionately.
Provide supportive counseling and therapeutic interventions during nighttime hours as needed.
Maintain familiarity with each youth's needs, triggers, and goals to support effective intervention.
Complete required documentation each shift, including logs, medication entries, point sheets, timesheets, and assigned paperwork.
Maintain a collaborative, team-based approach with coworkers, consultants, and supervisors.
Ensure the physical safety of youth and others in the home.
Participate in required trainings and follow supervision directives and agency policies.
Provide transportation for youth as assigned, using a personal vehicle when required.
Perform additional duties as assigned to support youth and program needs.
Qualifications:
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in human services or a related field preferred.
Relevant experience working with youth with emotional or behavioral challenges may be considered in lieu of formal education.
Knowledge and Competencies
Ability to build positive, respectful relationships with youth.
Flexibility and adaptability to respond to the changing needs of youth and residential settings.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to remain calm in high-stress situations.
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Willingness to learn and apply crisis de-escalation and passive restraint techniques.
Experience providing direct instruction or therapeutic services to youth with challenging behaviors (preferred).
Commitment to following individualized treatment plans, supervision guidance, and agency policies.
Work Environment:
This position is based in a residential treatment home and primarily consists of evening and overnight shifts, including weekends. Staff provide supervision during nighttime hours and may need to respond to behavioral or emotional crises to ensure safety. The role requires physical activity, including lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds and implementing physical restraints when necessary. Driving youth using a personal vehicle may be required, and staff must maintain appropriate insurance coverage. The environment can be fast-paced and emotionally demanding, requiring alertness, professionalism, and compassion throughout overnight shifts.
Compensation:

The Role
The Residential Youth Counselor will play a key role in supporting at-risk youth in diverse settings including the community, home, and school. This position provides an opportunity to help youth build essential life skills, develop coping strategies, and work toward personal goals in a structured, supportive environment.
Responsibilities include:
Providing mentorship and emotional support to youth experiencing emotional and behavioral challenges.
Deliver direct support and counseling to residents, cultivating a positive encouraging atmosphere that promotes growth.
Implementing individualized behavior plans and supporting residents with daily living skills.
Creating a safe and nurturing environment through active listening, crisis de-escalation techniques, and proactive interventions.
Engaging youth in recreational and skill-building activities, such as sports, arts & crafts, outdoor excursions, and community outings.
Documenting progress and communicating with care teams to ensure that each youth receives personalized, effective support.

Northwestern Counseling & Support Services, Inc. (NCSS) is seeking compassionate, motivated, and flexible candidates to become Behavior Interventionists and make a difference in the lives of others. Behavior Interventionists provide support to adults with intellectual disabilities or Autism within our community.
Key Responsibilities:
Participating as part of a team to initiate activities that support skill building based on a client's Individual Support Agreement (Treatment Plan).
Navigating maladaptive behaviors and providing needed behavioral support according to clients individualized Behavior Support Plans.
Assessing and adjusting the environment to ensure proper support and supervision while utilizing sound judgement and calm demeanor.
Developing positive and therapeutic working relationships.
Supporting individuals with communication needs.
Providing needed personal and/or medical care.
Documenting progress on Individuals Support Agreement goals.
The ideal candidates will be strong team players, exhibit patience, and have the ability to calmly and empathetically validate individuals during challenging situations. Therapeutic support experience is preferred; however, we are willing and able to train someone who is ready to support adults with intense behavioral needs. Reliable transportation is required.

Duties and Responsibilities
Provide direct overnight support to individuals experiencing mental health crises in a community-based residential setting.
Maintain a safe, therapeutic environment through active supervision and crisis prevention strategies.
Offer emotional support, supportive counseling, and reassurance during periods of distress.
Assess and monitor emotional, behavioral, and physical status, including safety and risk concerns.
Use de-escalation techniques and trauma-informed interventions to respond to behavioral escalation.
Assist with medication administration and monitoring in accordance with agency protocols.
Collaborate with clinical staff and multidisciplinary team members to support treatment planning and stabilization goals.
Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and external providers as needed.
Complete clear, timely, and objective documentation related to consumer care and treatment progress.
Support individuals in accessing community resources as part of discharge and stabilization planning.
Follow all confidentiality, ethical, and professional standards of care.
Qualifications
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree with 0-2 years of relevant experience, or
Two years of college with 2-4 years of relevant experience, or
High school diploma with 4-7 years of relevant experience, or
An equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge and Competencies
Experience providing direct care to individuals in crisis, preferably in behavioral health, residential, or hospital-like settings.
Understanding of crisis stabilization principles and trauma-informed, recovery-oriented care.
Familiarity with mental health diagnoses, substance use disorders, and treatment approaches.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to apply supportive counseling, motivational interviewing, and de-escalation strategies.
Capacity to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
Ability to assess safety, risk, and overall well-being in fast-changing situations.
Sensitivity to diverse backgrounds and commitment to inclusive, respectful care.

High school diploma or equivalent required.
Relevant post-secondary education in human services, education, psychology, social work, or a related field is preferred.
Ongoing training in behavioral intervention, trauma-informed care, and related practices is provided and expected.
Knowledge and Competencies:
Demonstrated experience providing direct supports or therapeutic services to children with challenging behaviors.
Basic understanding of trauma-informed care practices and child development.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to build positive working relationships with students, families, school personnel, and multidisciplinary teams.
Commitment to WCMHS's mission, vision, and values, including inclusion, self-determination, recovery, and compassionate, collaborative care.
Valid driver's license, strong driving record, and access to a safe, reliable, insured vehicle.
Compensation:
This full-time position offers an hourly rate of $23.83 per hour and offers excellent benefits, including tuition reimbursement/student loan assistance; generous paid time off; employer-sponsored health, dental, life, and disability insurances; and a 403(b)-retirement plan with employer match.
