The first initiative was an invitational two-day Summit in September 2010 in Wellesley, MA, funded by a generous grant from the Institute of Integrative Healthcare.
Shortly after forming in 2012, the organization established a Job Task Analysis (JTA) for the industry, which was validated by more than 1,000 practicing health & wellness coaches.
To formalize the NCCHWC agenda and position for fundraising for the implementation phase, a non-profit legal entity was formed and a voting process for a Board of Directors and Executive Committee was completed in 2013.
In 2016, the organization began working with the National Board of Medical Examiners (nbme.org) to establish a board certification examination, which has since certified more than 6,500 health & wellness coaches in the fields of healthcare, employee wellness, government, and private practice.
