Western Oklahoma State College, established as Altus Junior College in 1926, is the oldest original municipal two-year college still in existence in Oklahoma.
By 1933, AJC enrollment had severely declined, and the administration believed closure was inevitable.
Three years later, on July 26, 1936, AJC was hailed as a "minor educational miracle." During Smith's tenure enrollment dramatically increased from 10 to 219, the debate team won a national championship, and a powerhouse football team emerged.
The governor of Oklahoma appointed a board of regents for Altus Junior College on April 27, 1971.
In fall 2005, there were 150 students enrolled in distance learning courses. It first offered distance learning courses in 1976.
Joanne began working full time as a Library Clerk in September 1996.
Joanne has been a member of the Oklahoma Library Association since 1999 and has been involved with the OLA membership committee, support staff roundtable, and the University and College division.
Joanne has an Associates of Science in Business Administration and an Associates of Applied Science in Computer Software from WOSC. She completed her Associates of Applied Science degree in Library Technical Assistant from Rose State College in December 2001.
Stephen R. Hensley and Ray Brown followed Burris as presidents of WOSC. In 2001 Randy Cumby served as president, and enrollment stood at 2,211.
She advanced to the position of Library Technical Assistant in July 2002.

Suzanne earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the University of Oklahoma in 2006.
Suzanne received her Master of Arts in Library and Information Studies from the University of Oklahoma in 2011.
Suzanne has worked at Western Oklahoma State College since March of 2012.
Joanne was also a participant in the OLA Gold Leadership Institute in November 2013.
