In 2004, WSR expanded it’s focus to include the management and operation of the Sportsplex Indoor Soccer & Ice Arena.
The city of Bellingham bought it from Whitewater in 2004.
The Bellingham Blazers is a junior league hockey team located at the Bellingham Sportsplex in Bellingham, WA. The team was re-founded in 2012 and is now directed by the Bellingham Sports Commission.
In 2018, while celebrating the 25th anniversary of the league, the Blazers captured their first Northwest Division Championship and made their first appearance in the WSHL's Thorne Cup National Championship!
The financing status for Whatcom Sports & Recreation’s proposal to buy and renovate the Sportsplex was corrected on May 10, 2019.
2022 - USPHL - The Bellingham Blazers join the United States Premier Hockey League.
