WYFX company history timeline

1826

It ought to be commemorated, as the day of deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires and illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forever more”—John Adams (1735–1826)

1992

The station began broadcasting as WBLZ in 1992, when the FCC granted a license to cover.

1999

WBLZ was purchased from the Posey County Broadcasting Company by The Original Company in May 1999, and the call sign was changed to WYFX. The station picked up ABC Radio Networks' ABC AC format later that year.

2007

WYFX began a local sports program featuring former WYNG personality Dan Egerski in December 2007.

2008

In 2008, the stations started slowly re-branding themselves as "Fox Youngstown" in some advertisements, despite still using the "Fox 17/62" logo.

2009

On February 8, 2009, WKBN did a "dual HD" test airing both college basketball on 41.1 and the Gatorade Duel (the qualifying race for the Daytona 500) on 41.2 in a possible attempt to broadcast both signals in high definition full-time.

2012

On May 7, 2012, LIN TV Corporation announced that it would acquire the New Vision Television station group for $330.4 million and the assumption of $12 million in debt.

2014

On May 31, 2014, WYFX's contract to carry ESPN Radio expired; the station continued to carry the St Louis Cardinals, Blues and local sports broadcasts.

On June 4, 2014 WYFX changed their format to news/talk.

2016

On December 19, 2016, WYFX dropped its simulcast with WJPS and returned to a sports format, branded as "Fox Sports 106.7", with programming from Fox Sports Radio.
