14 News company history timeline

1953

Evansville's first local television station, WFIE, went on the air at 4:00 p.m., November 15, 1953.

1956

The first transmission of network color was carried on June 11, 1956.

On August 27, 1956, WFIE-TV was purchased by WAVE, Inc. in Louisville, Kentucky.

1957

In 1957 WFIE changed channels from 62 to14.

1959

1966

WFIE-TV was also the first station in Evansville to have local, live, color programs beginning March 10,1966, and the second station in Indiana to switch over completely to color programming.

1968

In 1968 WFIE-TV was the first station to process, in house, local color 16 millimeter news film.

1979

Finally, this date was the end of a hostage crisis that started in the year 1979.

1980

1980 : Economic growth had taken place during the 1980s.

1981

In October, 1981, Liberty Corporation based in Greenville, South Carolina purchased WFIE. WFIE-TV is one of 15 stations owned by Liberty Corporation, a public company traded on the New York Stock Exchange.

1988

Marcia Yockey, known for her ponytail and overly detailed presentation of the weather, also had an enormous following until her retirement in 1988.

Jeff Lyons joined the team in 1988.

1999

Her first husband had sent her flowers to her grave every day until he died in the year 1999.

2002

In May 2002, 14 WFIE began broadcasting a digital signal on DT 46.

2006

On February 1, 2006, WFIE-TV was purchased by Raycom Media based in Montgomery, Alabama.

2010

2010 : The United States has started to take additional air security measures in the wake of December's failed aircraft bomb plot.

2013

14 WFIE celebrated its 60th Anniversary on November 15, 2013.

2013 : Former US president George H.W. Bush was released from the hospital after two months.

2014

2014 : New Jersey Governor, and possible presidential hopeful, Chris Christie, was being investigated over suspicions that he misused Hurricane Sandy relief funds for his state.
