Key Responsibilities:
Course Delivery
Deliver USNCC courses virtually via LMS (currently Blackboard) in:
Asynchronous format: Weekly work completed by students, supported by faculty per syllabus.
Hybrid format: Combination of asynchronous and other methods as defined by USNCC.
Follow USNCC academic calendar and course syllabi.
Course Structure & Materials
Courses are generally 8 weeks long, equivalent to 3 semester hours.
Use provided course core shell (includes instructional materials, lectures, assignments, discussion topics).
Supplement core materials by 10-15% maximum with current events or relevant experiences.
Ensure all supplemental materials:
Comply with copyright laws.
Receive pre-approval from USNCC Dean/Associate Dean.
Follow USNCC Academic and IT policies.
All developed/uploaded materials become Government property.
Instructional Responsibilities
Present courses effectively, adapting teaching methods to special requirements.
Accommodate special student needs as directed by USNCC Student Services.
Facilitate:
Threaded discussions.
Student project development (scoping, review, modifications).
Student research (strategy, methodology, tools/resources).
Student writing and presentations.
Ensure responses and presentations are:
Well-reasoned, well-researched.
Up-to-date with Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard doctrine and scientific advancements.
Student Progress Tracking
Use USNCC Instruction Rubric and LMS tools to:
Track grades, assignment quality, timeliness weekly.
Identify struggling or at-risk students and follow up proactively.
Notify USNCC of all at-risk students via LMS process.
Report student progress:
Regularly to students.
Bi-weekly to USNCC lead faculty, Academic Affairs, and Student Services.
Orally in meetings as requested.
Grading
Complete grading and record final grades in LMS within 5 business days of course end.
Provide robust written feedback using USNCC rubrics.
Address missing, incomplete, or disputed grades per USNCC Faculty Handbook.
Collaborate with USNCC TPOC and Course Leads on resolving incomplete grades.
Contact Hours
Average 10 hours/week per course section for instruction, grading, feedback, and admin tasks.
Maintain:
2 hours/week standard office hours.
2 hours/week non-standard hours as needed for student schedules.
Communication & Responsiveness
Communicate only via LMS or corporate email (no personal channels).
Respond to student inquiries:
Same day when possible.
Within 24 hours on weekdays or by Monday morning after weekends.
Provide feedback on written assignments within 96 business hours.
Engage in threaded discussions to encourage dialogue and critical thinking.
Compliance
Adhere to USNCC policies, SOPs, and Department of Navy/DoD standards.
No default advising or mentoring duties beyond supporting enrolled students.
Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
Academically Qualified (AQ) instructors shall have the minimum of a master's degree (doctorate degree preferred), in an appropriate field of study, with at least 16 hours of credit in the relevant field(s): U.S. History, military history, government, strategic studies, and defense policy.
Professionally Qualified (PQ) faculty will have significant and substantive relevant experience in a military or related setting that makes them uniquely or substantively qualified to teach the specific subject area. This will typically include at least 5-10 years of direct field experience, with at least several of those years at a leadership level, in the specific course area being taught: Introductory courses in U.S. history, military history, strategy, defense policy, and security studies

HOW A Secondary Firearms Instructor (SFI) WILL MAKE AN IMPACT:
The Secondary Firearms Instructor (SFI) supports the Lead Firearms Instructor (LFI) during the Federal Flight Deck Officer (FFDO) Requalification Training sessions. The SFI assists the LFI as directed in the preparation; completion; and post session clean-up requirements of all FFDO Semi-annual Firearms Requalification sessions.
Ensures student safety during dry-fire and live-fire training venues.
The SFI provides one-on-one instruction to students during the pre-qualification (warm-up) course of fire; and any remedial training as designated by the LFI.
The SFI must possess the demonstrated ability to effectively communicate law enforcement training concepts and issues to a diverse audience; and must possess the demonstrated ability to instruct in accordance with the principles of basic adult education; as well as platform and practical area instruction for law enforcement.
The SFI must have the ability to interpret; apply; and adhere to established program policies; standard operating procedures (SOPs); and lesson plans.
The SFI keeps all Sensitive Security Information (SSI) and Sensitive Personally Identifying Information (SPII) secured appropriately both during and after a re-qualification session in compliance with the TSA MD 2100.2; Privacy and Information Collection Policy and TSA MD 1400.3 TSA Information Security Policy.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO SUCCEED:
Required Experience: SFIs must have a minimum of 5 years of formal experience as an instructor in ALL of the following law enforcement disciplines: firearms; defensive tactics/measures; and use of force.
The SFI must be a current or former certified law enforcement official or civilian employee having completed a military; state; county or municipally certified firearms training program.
Associates Degree; or the equivalent combination of education; technical certifications or training; or work/military experience.
The SFI must also comply with all Federal; state; and/or local requirements.
This position requires applicants to successfully complete the security application and pass a background investigation clearance prior to starting.*
Working Conditions The work is typically performed at an indoor or outdoor gun range. Employees will be required to handle weapons and ammunition in the course of their duties. Exposure to high volumes of noise due to the firing of weapons will occur and employees are required to wear hearing protection in the form of foam ear plugs as well as external hearing protection. Exposure to expelled gun-powder as a result of fired ammunition is expected; and the employees must wash hands after handling ammunition. Work may require some physical effort in the handling of light materials; boxes; or equipment. The likely hourly rate for this position is between $29.84 - $40.38. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
