How We Determined the Best Job Markets in Texas

We utilized the latest data from the Census American Community Survey to analyze major Texas metropolitan areas, focusing on cities with a civilian workforce of over 5,000.

While the unemployment rate is a valuable indicator of a local job market, it is just one aspect. We took a comprehensive approach to evaluate the best job markets in Texas.

Each metropolitan area was ranked from 1 to 212 in four key categories:

  • Unemployment Rate
  • Change in Unemployment Rate
  • Household Income Change
  • Current Average Household Income

A lower score in each category indicates a stronger job market. For instance, the Anna area had the lowest unemployment rate at 0.9%, securing its position at the top for unemployment rates. The scores for the four categories were averaged to generate our final ranking, which ranks the 212 metro areas from 1 to 212.
