Starting a new job often comes with a rush of anxiety and stress. In 2026, stress is not only confined to workplace transitions; various factors contribute to heightened stress levels across different locations in Hawaii. From long commutes to the rising cost of living, certain areas in the Aloha State face unique challenges that amplify stress.
After analyzing various metrics, it appears that Maili has the highest stress levels in Hawaii. Below is a list of the top 10 most stressed places in the state:
To assess stress levels across Hawaii, we utilized six key indicators that reflect common stressors affecting residents. Our analysis encompassed 96 locations in Hawaii with populations exceeding 2,000 based on the latest census data:
Percentage of the population with long commutes (over 30 minutes)
Unemployment rate
Average hours worked per week
Population density
Percentage of income allocated to rent
Percentage of uninsured residents
Higher values in these categories correlate with increased stress levels.
Data was sourced from the most recent U.S. Census Bureau statistics. Each location was ranked from 1 to 96 based on these criteria, with the average rank determining the overall Stress Score—where a lower score indicates higher stress.
