At what age can you become a firefighter?

By Justin Parker - Mar. 13, 2023

The age at which you can become a firefighter depends on the jurisdiction and specific fire department, with many setting the age requirement at either 18 or 21 years of age.

These are the two most common age requirements for firefighters in the US, however, some jurisdictions allow applicants to be as young as 17. Jurisdictions that have a minimum age requirement of 17 also require applicants to provide parental consent forms.
