This question is about how to do a background check.

How far back does a federal background check go?

By Kate Swindlehurst - Mar. 13, 2023

A federal background check goes back ten years. This means that they are limited to convictions that have occurred in the last ten years. Anything before that does not appear on a background check.

Although federal background checks go back for convictions in the past ten years, there are some parts that only go back seven years. This includes some court records, depending on the crime and conviction.
