How hard is it to become a midwife?

By Kate Swindlehurst - Jun. 13, 2023

It is not very hard to become a midwife, although it can be a long process. Midwives are specialized nurses, so you will need to complete nursing school and then graduate from a nurse-midwifery program. This process takes around 8 years to complete.

Once you have graduated from an accredited program and passed any licensing exams that may be required depending on your location, you can begin looking for work as a midwife. There is high demand for midwives, and this is projected to continue, so finding a position should not be too difficult for a skilled, educated midwife.
