How long is film school?

Film school takes four years to complete. This is the case for most film programs at colleges and universities. However, some film school options take less than four years. Here is a look at the different options for education in film and their timelines:

• University or college. Colleges or universities that offer film programs grant students a bachelor's degree in Film and TV, film studies, or film theory.

  These programs see students taking general education courses in their first two years, with some film courses. The latter two years consist of the majority of the film classes in the program.

• Art school. Many art schools offer film programs. Students attending these programs normally receive a bachelor of fine arts degree with a concentration in film and TV, film studies, film history, or film theory.

  Students normally complete general education courses in fine art and film. The majority of these programs take four years to complete.

• Two-year programs. There are film schools that have accelerated programs that can be completed in just two years. These programs are normally highly intensive and consist of class times that are multiple hours long. Here are some examples of film programs that can be completed in two years:
