The number of hours a minor (under 18 years old) can work in Hawaii depends on the minor's age and the type of work they are doing. Generally, minors aged 14 and 15 years old may work only 3 hours on school days and 8 hours on non-school days, with no more than 18 hours per week.
While minors aged 16 and 17 years old may work 4 hours on school days and 8 hours on non-school days, with no more than 28 hours per week. No minors under the age of 16 may not be employed in hazardous occupations.
Minors between the ages of 14 and 15 years in Hawaii may work as follows:
Not more than 3 hours per day on a school day, and 8 hours per day on a non-school day.
During a school week, not more than 18 hours per week. During a non-school week, not more than 40 hours per week.
On school days and the day before a school day: Between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. On non-school days and the day before a non-school day: Between 6:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m.
Not more than 6 consecutive days, and 5 consecutive hours without at least a 30-minute rest or meal period.
Minors between the ages of 16 and 17 years in Hawaii may work as follows:
Minors aged 16 and 17 are allowed to work, but not in hazardous jobs.
During the school year, no minor under 16 years of age can work longer than 3 hours a day when school is in session, and 8 hours on non-school days.
No minor under 16 years of age can work before 6 a.m. and after 9.30 p.m. on school days. On non-school days, they can work until 11 p.m.
