A minor in West Virginia can work different numbers of hours depending on their age and other factors. Here is a breakdown of the hours different age groups of minors can work in West Virginia:
14- and 15-year-old minors
When school is in session these minors have the ability to work:
3 hours per school day
8 hours per non-school day
18 total per school week
40 hours total per non-school week
Minors between the ages of 14 and 15 in West Virginia are not allowed to work before 7 am or after 7 pm. However, they are allowed to work as late as 9 pm from June 1st until Labor Day (school summer vacation) with the exception of the night preceding a school day. These minors are also only allowed to work outside of school hours when school is in session.
16- and 17-year-old minors
When school is in session these minors have the ability to work:

40 hours per school week
48 total per non-school week
A 16- or 17-year-old minor in West Virginia may work the same hours as an adult, there are no restrictions that restrict this action. They are also entitled to the same break requirements as a working adult in West Virginia, with a minimum of a 20-minute break when working for six or more hours in one shift or work day.
