How old do you have to be to work at an aquarium?

Those under 18 years old can work with animals if they are enrolled in an educational internship role. These are temporary positions where someone works under the direct supervision of an experienced aquarium professional.

• Animal trainer. 21 years old with a degree in animal behavior or a related field, or equivalent experience
• Guest services representative.16 years old with a high school diploma or equivalent, or younger with appropriate work permits.
• Retail associate.16 years old with a high school diploma or equivalent, or younger with appropriate work permits.
• Tour guide.18 years old with a high school diploma or equivalent, or younger with appropriate work permits and experience working with the public.
• Maintenance and facilities staff.18 years old with a high school diploma or equivalent, or younger with appropriate work permits.
• Education coordinator.21 years old with a degree in education, marine biology, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
