How to get a job as a flight attendant

By Kate Swindlehurst - Apr. 2, 2023

To get a job as a flight attendant, you must meet the basic requirements, complete a training program, and get certified. The basic requirements for becoming a flight attendant are to be at least 18 or 21 years old, depending on the airline.

You must also hold a valid passport, pass a background check and drug test, and be eligible to work in the US.

Flight attendants must complete some airline certification/training programs before beginning work. Some airlines provide this as on-the-job training, while others may require applicants to have completed the training before being considered for employment. Either way, these take around six weeks to complete.

After completing airline-required training, flight attendants still need to be certified before they can legally begin working. FAA certification can be received after passing an exam, but you can also be given it if the director of operations of an airline applies for it for you.

This is for flight attendants who have already shown proficiency in key areas, like first-aid and evacuation.
