How to get back into the job market

By Kate Swindlehurst - Apr. 25, 2023

You should update your resume, look into any connections, and consider gaining new skills to get back into the job market. It can be extremely nerve-wracking to begin working again, but there are tools there for you to use to successfully reenter the job market.

The first step to getting back into the job market is updating your resume, if applicable. Make sure you add any experiences that you may have that have helped you be more prepared for reentry into the job market. Ensure your address and other contact information are updated to your current information.

A great way to get back into the industry is connecting with any people you may know in the industry. They may know of positions or opportunities available for you.

You may not be able to get back right where you left off, but a connection may help you start in an adjacent position where you can work to get back and surpass where you once were.

In some instances, it may be worthwhile for you to work towards gaining new skills before returning to the job market, which could include something like earning an additional degree, but it could also be something simple like becoming certified in something that can make you a more competitive candidate for positions.
