How to get into tattooing?
To get into tattooing, you need to be an artistic individual who has completed an apprenticeship that leads to certification or licensure. There is not a set educational requirement for tattoo artists, but most of them require you to hold a high school diploma or the equivalent. A background in art is extremely beneficial to be a successful tattoo artist.

In general, tattoo artists undergo extensive on-the-job training through apprenticeships that last, on average, from one to three years.
During an apprenticeship, you learn sanitation and disposal procedures as well as infection prevention before you even begin tattooing. Employees in a tattoo parlor must complete OSHA-approved bloodborne pathogens (BBP) training. Apprentices also have direct observation hours, as well as hours cleaning and preparing a workstation.
Apprenticeship length generally depends on when an artist is ready and holds enough skill and knowledge to begin working without being under the observation of someone else. Often, new tattoo artists are still aided by more experienced tattoo artists. Throughout their careers, tattoo artists often need to complete continuing education.
