How to get into the Coast Guard
To get into the Coast Guard, you must complete the Coast Guard admissions process, complete an online application, pass a fitness assessment, take a service-specific aptitude test, attend a Coast Guard recruit training center, and complete the seven-week Basic Training program. While this may seem like a lot of steps, the Coast Guard has a lot to offer an individual willing to take on the challenge.

Tips for joining the coast guard:
Research the U.S. Coast. Make sure to familiarize yourself with the mission and values of the U.S. Coast Guard before committing to joining.
Meet the age requirement. Prospective members must be between the ages of 17-27, with no upper age limit for prior service members.
Get an education. Qualifying candidates need to have a high school diploma or equivalent. A college degree can also be beneficial.
Take the ASVAB. The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) is a series of tests given by the US military that measure knowledge and aptitude in areas such as reading, mathematics, mechanics, and more.
Complete Basic Training. New recruits need to complete an eight-week Basic Training Course at the United States Coast Guard Training Center in Cape May, New Jersey.
Take the Oath of Allegiance. After completing the necessary steps, participants will take the Oath of Allegiance and officially become a member of the U.S. Coast Guard.
