How to quit a toxic job

By Kate Swindlehurst - Apr. 25, 2023

You can quit a toxic job by simply putting in your two weeks' notice to your boss. Be honest, straightforward, and clear. You do not need to even give a reason for your decision to quit, but if you want to, you can simply state how your job environment is affecting your life negatively.

You can always state, "I have a difficult time handling this environment, and because of that, I am resigning." You can also add how it may affect your health or life outside of work.

Being honest and upfront can hopefully allow the employer to look for ways to change the role or workload in the future for others.

If your boss is part of the reason your job is toxic, do not feel you need to explain anything to them. Just quit. It's that easy. It is okay to not have everyone like you, and if your mental health is better away from the job, don't let the stress of quitting keep you from getting away from that toxic job.
