What are the pros and cons of being an appraiser?

Pros:

• Flexible work schedule. Many appraisers have the flexibility to choose when and how they work. This can be extremely appealing to many people when searching for careers.

• Stability. While many parts of the real estate market can be hot and cold, which can sometimes lead to instability, being an appraiser stays constant and there is always work to be done, even during slow buying and selling times.

• Potential for good pay. Appraisers can make great money and typically have good benefits packages that include health insurance, retirement plans, and other benefits that may interest people.

Cons:

• Stress. Appraisers have a huge job of trying to appraise a property fairly. The stress of making sure that they are choosing the "right" appraisal value can be stressful and some people dislike that aspect.

• Difficult clients. As appraisers work closely with people's finances, there is a lot at stake. Because of this, it is not uncommon to have disgruntled people angry at the appraisal given, and that can be something that appraisals dislike.
