This question is about curator education.
You typically need a minimum of a bachelor's degree in a related field to become a curator. Although there are several types of curators, most work in museums and should have had extensive exposure to art and/or history.
It is important for curators to have a rich background in the field that they are curating. A bachelor's degree in either art history or history is needed for entry-level positions. Among the top curating positions, approximately 27% had a PhD. and 55% have a master's degree.
It is now possible to earn a degree in the actual skill of curating. The Bard Center for Curatorial Studies offers a degree program in this field. The program focuses on assembling and maintaining collections for a variety of institutions that range from private collections to public holdings, and those maintained by the government.
