What does a CRNA do on a daily basis?

By Justin Parker - Jun. 12, 2023

A CRNA performs pre-anesthesia assessments on patients, administers anesthesia, and provides post-anesthesia care to patients on a daily basis. Here are some details on the daily activities of a CRNA:

  • Performs pre-operative patient assessments. A CRNA reviews the anesthesia plan with patients before surgery and also performs evaluations on the patient to determine the correct form and dosage of anesthesia to administer. They are available during the pre-op period for patients to ask questions or express concerns about the use of anesthesia.
  • Administers anesthesia. A CRNA gives medicine called anesthesia to patients to keep them from feeling pain or anxietyduring a medical procedure. They can work in tandem with anesthesiologists to help in providing general anesthesia, regional anesthesia, or sedation.

  • Conducts post-operative care on patients. CRNAs also concentrate on pain management and critical care medicine after a patient's surgery is complete. They might also perform patient surveys or evaluate patients' postoperative condition.
