This question is about jobs.
A co-op job is a multi-work term agreement with one employment. Traditionally, it is completed with at least three work terms alternating with school terms.
This results in a degree program that normally takes four years would then take five years, but this would include the real-world experience gained at the co-op job. Traditionally, co-ops are full-time, paid positions.
Co-ops are similar to internships as they allow students to gain real-world working experience while working on their degrees. They are different in that they are longer commitments, as they are over more than one term. They are also paid positions, which can differ from many different internships.
Co-op programs alternate working with schooling, which allows for an interesting approach to hands-on learning. Students can work, return to school to learn more, and then use those newly learned skills in real work situations. Co-ops are open to all majors but are most commonly found for engineering majors.
