What is a quorum in a meeting?

By Kate Swindlehurst - Mar. 13, 2023

A quorum in a meeting is a minimum number of eligible voting members who must be present in order to conduct business. This is often for any meeting, not just meetings that are established to vote on any matter. This allows for the meeting to be effective as there is a significant number of people present to give ideas and participate.

The number of a quorum is often established through bylaws. If there is not a specific number for a quorum, the default number for a quorum is just a majority of your members. If there is a vote occurring during the meeting, having the majority present ensures that whatever is being voted upon is favored by a large group of your members.
