What is OTT advertising?

OTT advertising is the advertisements that play with streamed content. OTT advertising is also known as streaming TV ads. These ads are typically played on streaming services before, during, and after shows and movies.

OTT advertising is shown to viewers while they are streaming content. It should not be confused with CTV advertising, advertisements placed alongside apps and shows on a connected device. These two are related to ad placement within streaming but are different in placement.

OTT advertising gets its name, "over-the-top" advertising, because while viewers are already paying subscription fees to view their content, they are also being advertised while watching the content. There are often tier levels of the subscription that allow viewers to pay more to eliminate OTT advertising.
