What to do when your job harms your health?

By Kate Swindlehurst - Apr. 2, 2023

Seek support, ask for help, and consider moving positions when your job begins to harm your health. Support is crucial for working through this. Ask family and loved ones to help you out and find solutions. Look for ways to find time outside of work to do things that make you happy.

Another thing you can do when your job harms your health is to take care of yourself. Eating, exercising, and sleeping well can do wonders for managing stress and reducing burnout.

Even if you don't feel that you have time to do it all, prioritizing helps to reduce stress, hopefully, improve health, and make everything else feel more manageable.

You should seek help and support at work to work through these health issues. Connecting with those around you is beneficial as you can have someone who can support you and knows what you're going through. Speaking to your boss may allow you to fix issues directly affecting your health.

Lastly, if talking to your employer about your health and working towards fixing issues on your own has not made any improvements, consider looking for different work. You should not have to work in a position that deteriorates your health, so finding an alternative, if possible, can be wonderful.
