Who do anesthesiologists work with?

Anesthesiologists work with PACU staff, doctors, and nurses. Here is a closer look at the medical professionals that anesthesiologists work with:

• PACU staff. An anesthesiologist works with the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) which includes nurses, medical staff, and other essential healthcare personnel. They collaborate with these professionals in the post-anesthesia stage after a patient has completed a surgery or serious medical procedure that required anesthesia or sedation.
• Doctors. An anesthesiologist works with other doctors and surgeons when giving medicine called anesthesia to keep a patient from feeling pain or anxietyduring a medical procedure. They can work in tandem with other anesthesiologists and assistants to help in providing general anesthesia, regional anesthesia, or sedation.
• Nurses. An anesthesiologist works with a nurse anesthetist wh goes over the anesthesia plan with patients before a surgery and performs evaluations on the patient to determine the correct form and dosage of anesthesia. They are also available during the pre-op period for any concerns a patient or anesthesiologist might have.
