Network Systems Engineer
Menlo Park, CA jobs
All of Meta's traffic goes over third-party Communications Service Provider (CSP) networks before it reaches Meta's users. This portion of the network which sits between Meta infrastructure and our end users has a direct impact on our users' product experience and Meta's revenue. The scope of the problem is significant since CSP networks come in a large variety of last mile access to home technologies, including fixed (fiber, cable, copper, FWA, satellite), cellular (3G/4G/5G) and in-home wireless access (WiFi 5/6/7). The market is bifurcated by a large number of infra OEMs and Service Providers on regional and country level. Many of them move slowly. Limited visibility into third-party networks and privacy/policy constraints with respect to personally identifiable information (PII) introduce unique challenges. All of this impedes scalability of solutions that require CSP collaboration and increases complexity for internal product interventions. The Communications Systems & Ecosystems team brings extensive technical knowledge of CSP infrastructure and unique engineering skills to develop solutions that enable Meta Family of Apps (FoA) teams to improve performance, competitive advantage and efficiency over a variety of CSP network conditions, either through direct internal optimizations with prod teams (i.e., control your own destiny), or engaging with external engineering teams on CSP partner side for joint solutions (i.e., collaboration with industry).
**Required Skills:**
Network Systems Engineer Responsibilities:
1. Apply extensive knowledge of wired and wireless networking to characterize and optimize features/algorithms in the Meta product stack to elevate user experience
2. Partner closely with engineering teams on Whatsapp calling, Traffic infra protocols and various other Family of Apps product teams to identify the highest impact issues in Meta product performance and efficiency
3. Perform competitive analysis and benchmarking for various RTC and video apps in lab and field
4. Develop actionable problem statements to reproduce, narrow down and root cause issues, and engage with partner teams on developing and testing solutions
5. Modify Meta production software either as a development branch for proof of concept development, or for the final implementation
6. Work closely with Ecosystem, Telco Partnership and Policy teams to structure programs with CSPs to conduct technical due-diligence and provide technical support

Minimum Qualifications:
7. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience
8. Extensive background in communication systems and networking, with working level understanding of communication protocols across the CSP stack

Virtual Memory Kernel Engineer
Systems integration engineer job at Apple
The Darwin Systems team within Apple's CoreOS organization is responsible for delivery of a high-quality and performant kernel for just about every one of Apple's products. Our software runs on your wrist as part of watch OS; in your pocket with iOS; on your desk in mac OS; in your living room with tv OS; and now in vision OS and Apple's Cloud. These are the devices owned by your friends and family; and hundreds of millions of devices beyond those. We ensure every aspect of the kernel and other system software are top class: features, performance, stability, security… This position requires a solid understanding of operating systems fundamentals, including kernel design and implementation. The virtual memory team is in charge of page management, mechanisms such as copy on write, low-memory process killing, swap… We work with every layer of the stack: from hardware all the way up to applications and successful engineers will be able to dig deep into details and work with other engineers to solve problems, find opportunities to keep on improving our stack and design to improve our customers' experience.
As Moore's law is slowing down, effective management of resources is becoming more and more important. We work closely with all product teams across Apple to provide them with a modern, efficient operating system that allows them to ship the kinds of quality products that our customers expect. Come work with us on Apple's operating systems and get a chance to influence design across the stack: from Silicon all the way up to the SDK and applications while focusing on performance and delivering value to our customers.
