You will be working in our 3 bases located in Sioux Falls, SD, Aberdeen, SD and Pierre, SD. This position may be eligible for a $3,500 sign on bonus!! Schedule: 12 hour shifts: 7:00am-7:30pm and 7:00pm-7:30am; Rotate every other weekend/holiday. You will know your schedule 6 weeks in advance. Your preferences will be taken in consideration for scheduling. A Brief Overview Provides emergency medical services, under the direction and supervision of the Emergency Department Physician and management for providing high quality patient care according to established standards of performance, the philosophy and objectives of Avera and the Careflight Program. What you will do * Collects patient health data from patients, referring healthcare providers and patient charts. * Analyzes the collected data to assist in determining diagnoses and area of problem focus. * Identifies expected outcomes and goals individualized to the patient, and develops a plan of care that prescribes interventions to attain expected outcomes during transport. * Implements the interventions identified in the plan of care. * Evaluates the patient's progress toward attainment of the outcomes, calls medical director for orders or utilizes protocols in place. * Evaluates own practice in relation to professional practice standards and relevant statutes and regulations. Completes peer evaluations when requested. * Acquires and maintains current knowledge in practice, procedures and care. * Collaborates with the patient, significant others and health care providers to provide appropriate patient care. * Utilizes research findings in practice if appropriate. * Considers factors related to safety, effectiveness and cost in planning and delivering patient care in support of responsible, ethical and safe patient care and environments. * All Careflight personnel are responsible for maintaining physical health and proper weight, not to exceed 240 pounds. Essential Qualifications The individual must be able to work the hours specified. Mahaska Ambulance is the only advanced-level ambulance service in Mahaska County. This position fulfills the role of a Paramedic in the ambulance, assists with patient care in the ED, acts as the first line of security assistance, responds to in-house codes, and performs IV starts and airway management. $10,000 Sign on Bonus Open Hours: Full-time: 7:00am - 7:00pm + On-Call Responsibilities Essential Job Functions include but are not limited to: Assesses nature and extent of illness or injury to establish and prioritize medical care/procedures to be followed or need for additional assistance. Administers basic and advanced life support care to sick and injured persons according to the Iowa Paramedic scope of practice and state/local protocols. Directs and coordinates patient care, between inter-agency personnel (ie. Fire, Police, and First Responders) and other MHP EMS employees. Drives ambulance to and from emergency and non-emergency scenes in a manner appropriate to dispatch direction and to patient condition, at all times considering due regard for the safety of self and others. Completes all reports, including patient care records, legibly, accurately, and on a timely basis Following every ambulance call ensures supplies and equipment are restocked and equipment and ambulance are disinfected. At each shift change, checks medical/operating supplies and vehicle utilizing shift check list. Maintains ambulances in clean, working order. At each shift, inspects vehicle to ensure that it is ready for service (e.g. brakes, lights, fluids, etc.) Performs all duties in a safe courteous, confidential and professional manner, always taking into account the well-being of the patient. Must be able to perform the physical demands of the job. Maintains regular and reliable attendance. Assists with patient care in the Emergency Department and other hospital units under the paramedic scope of practice. Participates in emergency response to Code Blue events, Rapid Response requests, and Dr. Strong requests. Qualifications Requirements include but are not limited to: High School diploma, GED or equivalent. Current State of Iowa Paramedic certification. Required to be current in BLS (Basic Life Support) and ALS (Advanced Life Support) by the standards of the American Heart Association. PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) and PHTLS (or within 1 year of hire). Valid and unrestricted and appropriate Iowa Driver License (minimum Class 3D). Required to show proof of having completed Mandatory Reporter course at time of hire or attend within 6 months of start date. Must adhere to all training requirements as mandated by Federal, State, and Professional licensure and regulatory standards.
