Responsible for ensuring continuity of care of the patients between shifts by providing direct care as well as supervising the care given by Nursing Assistants and supportive staff members. Population: Patients with life-threatening emergent, urgent, semi-urgent and non-urgent conditions of all ages served within the department, neonates to geriatrics.

The Climber is responsible for climbing, pruning, and removing trees. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Always follow and help enforce safe practices and rules Climb, prune, and remove trees according to Foreperson's directives Load and unload trucks with logs, brush, and debris; lifts and feeds brush into brush chipper. Work from the ground using hand saws, pole saws, pruners, hand pruners, loppers, and gas-powered chain saws Inspect and ensure proper working condition of all assigned tools and equipment Safeguard employees and public from hazards in and around the work area by enforcing safe job practices, keeping work area clean and orderly, and staying in frequent voice communication with co-workers Perform duties for storm work as needed SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Climbers have no direct reports. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Prior experience in electric utility vegetation management, construction, logging, landscaping, mechanical, or military industries preferred. 1-2 years previous climbing experience is required. EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS High School diploma or education equivalent preferred KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Must be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of all knots, ropes, and rigging devices used in tree trimming and removal operations Must be able to climb and descend trees using rope and safety saddle Must be able to administer and implement emergency rescue techniques, including tree rescue and all applicable first aid techniques Must be familiar with electrical hazards and appropriate operating procedure when in proximity to electrical conductors and aerial rescue techniques in the event of an emergency aloft Must be able to work and maneuver at considerable heights under varying and adverse weather conditions Must possess physical strength and agility, good balance, good depth perception and the ability to hear verbal instructions from a distance. Under direction of the Grounds Superintendent, the Associate Grounds Superintendent reports directs, trains and supervises the operational and personnel activities of the Grounds Department within the Physical Plant. The assists in leadership of landscape design, planning, maintenance, construction, irrigation, disease identification and treatment in turf/plants/trees, pest control, budget preparation, bid specification and personnel management, including training and daily supervision. Plans, directs, manages, and leads the overall operation of the grounds department to maintain a safe and attractive landscape, including assigning, training and evaluating work for grounds areas owned or operated by the University. This position works with all areas of the campus in campus design and maintenance to ensure compliance with the University Landscape Master Plan and University Facility Masterplan. This requires regular communication with the University leadership team, esthetics committee and contract designers. RESPONSIBITIES AND EXPECTATIONS: Ensure that all State and Federal regulations are followed regarding but not limited to use of pesticides, herbicides, waste collection and employee safety. Communicate with administrators, personnel and outside organizations to coordinate activities, resolve issues and conflicts and exchange information. Must have and maintain a broad knowledge of State Civil Service policies and regulations including attendance, overtime, promotion and discipline. Will recruit interview and manage staff per State and University policies. Provide technical expertise, information and assistance to the University regarding assigned functions; participates in the formulation and development of policies, procedures and programs as requested. Must have a valid driver's license to operate a motor vehicle in the State of Louisiana and possess an acceptable driving record. When working out of doors, may encounter varying terrain (some potentially hazardous) in all types of extreme weather conditions and involves potential exposure to pesticides and maintenance related substance, blood borne pathogens, and diseased animals. Position involves recurring early and late hours with exposure to hazards, ventilation problems and noise extremes, high vehicular traffic and congested areas. Travel between college locations using college-owned vehicle or personal vehicle may be required. Frequent walking, standing, climbing, lifting, stooping or carrying of equipment and materials may be required. Incumbent may be required to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
