By 1982, however, with revenues slipping, Roadway chose to discount its prices.

In 1984 Roadway Services acquired Spartan Express, Inc.; Nationwide Carriers, Inc.; and Roberts Express, Inc.

In 1985 Roadway's earnings dipped for the first time in 32 years.

In 1987 a New York City trucking firm, Lifschutz Fast Freight Inc., filed suit against trucking's big three--Yellow Freight, Roadway Services, and Consolidated Freightways--charging predatory pricing and conspiracy to restrain trade and free competition in certain segments of the industry.

In 1988 Roadway acquired Viking Freight, the largest regional carrier in the western United States.

RPS contributed one-fourth of Roadway Services's profits in 1989.

In March 1990 Roadway's Roberts Express unit launched a European subsidiary, Roberts Express, B.V., headquartered in Maastricht, the Netherlands.

1991 - Brookshire Brothers began offering gasoline on its supermarket parking lots.

1992 - Brookshire Brothers opened its first pharmacy.

When the Supreme Court finally declined to hear the case in 1993, the big three trucking firms had spent more than $6 million in refuting the charges made by Lifshutz.

In 1994 the Teamsters called a strike at Roadway Express that lasted for 24 days.

Roadway Express was formerly a subsidiary of Roadway Services, Inc., but since 1995 it has operated as an independent, publicly owned company.

1997 - Brookshire Brothers opened its first Tobacco Barn and expanded its offerings to include discount tobacco.

In April 1998 Roadway reached agreement with the Teamsters on a new five-year contract.

1999 - Brookshire Brothers embarked on a employee-owner stock buyout.

2006 - Brookshire Brothers becomes 100% employee owned.

2007 - Brookshire Brothers merged with Polk Oil Company, which added fuel distribution and the convenience store format.

2013 - Five new supermarkets and six new convenience stores were added to Brookshire Brothers’ operations.

2014 - Brookshire Brothers acquires the assets of David’s Supermarkets.

2015 - Brookshire Brothers sells 26 Polk Pick-It-Up convenience stores to Partners Investors C-Stores, Ltd.

2016 – Brookshire Brothers celebrates its 95th birthday.

2017 - Brookshire Brothers opens additional Brookshire Brothers Express formats in Hudson, TX and Valley Mills, TX.

2018 – The launch of Brookshire Brothers Anywhere, an online shopping platform for grocery pickup and delivery.
