CAK International company history timeline

1940

In September 1940, with Hitler threatening world domination in World War II, the Civil Aeronautics Administration (CAA) announced $500 million in new funds for airport construction in the United States.

1942

In December 1942, Canton City Council approved a transfer of $200,000 from the Timken War Profit Tax revenues to purchase a site for the new airport.

1943

J.E. Kinnison, a Canton attorney, disputed the use of tax dollars to purchase the property in Summit County and effectively blocked the resolution in June 1943.

1944

In March of 1944, the first four trustees were appointed: Henry H. Timken Jr. and F.S. Wilkins from Stark County, and Lon L. Tighe and Gillum H. Doolittle from Summit County.

1946

In February of 1946, eight months prior to the airport's dedication, American, Eastern, Capital and United announced their plans to move from Akron Municipal Airport to Canton-Akron Memorial Airport.

1947

Akron Municipal Airport lost its fight to hold the four airlines in October 1947 when the CAA recommended that they be transferred to Akron-Canton Airport.

1948

It was not until March 9, 1948, that the Civil Aeronautics Board allowed the four airlines to move to the new Airport.

1975

1975 Group of men and women met in the Boardroom at Fort Sanders Presbyterian Hospital to formalize a charter.

1976

1976 Board met weekly to work on policies, school forms, personnel requirements and teacher qualifications.

1977

1977 CAK opens it's doors with 96 students in grades K-6.

1978

1978 Enrollment grows to 159 and grades 7-8 are added.

1979

1979 CAK high school begins with the addition of 9th grade.

1983

1983 The Development Committee finally found land for CAK’s permanent home and purchased 27 acres of land off Dutchtown Road.

1985

1985 CAK’s first school facility opened, and the first two buildings overflowed even before they were completed.

1986

1986 The first gym, with band room and home economics room, was completed.

1987

1987 CAK becomes the first school in Tennessee to gain dual accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) and the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI).

1993

1993 The new elementary wing opened in October.

1998

1998 Enrollment topped 800 and the new high school building opened.

2001

2001 Pre-K program opened and new classrooms built.

2009

2009 Six tennis courts were constructed and opened near the Campus Center.

2017

2017 CAK celebrated its 40th Anniversary.

2021

CS Peter Munya to expedite the passage of the Cooperative Bill 2021

2022

Kenyans joined the rest of the world in marking the 100th International Cooperative Day better known in Kenya as Ushirika Day on Saturday, July 2, 2022
