CCBA company history timeline

1919

The Carter Community Building Association (CCBA) established in 1919 is a 501(c) (3) Non-profit organization with a mission to deliver high quality services and programs accessible to all members of the upper valley community.

1926

1926: First meeting place was at 8th and Greene Street.

1929

1929: Chinese School established with John Lum as teacher.

1930

1930: Augusta Chinese population was 153.

1939

1939: CCBA purchased property at 548 Walker Street for $2,500.00 and relocated.

1940

1940: Augusta Chinese population was 222; 60 Chinese grocery stores.

1947

1947: Chinese Youth Club of Augusta (CYCA) was formed.

1948

CCBA Chinese Women’s Club established in Oct, 1948 and Mrs.

1955

1955: First Orchid Brocade Christmas Dance was organized by chairperson James Woo.

1958

1958: First major building renovation was funded by chop suey dinners.

1959

1959: An educational support group called Abacus Club was formed.

1971

1971: The Dragon Club youth group was formed.

1981

In 1981, grants and donations funded the building renovation.

1986

The district most distinguishing landmark, the Chinatown Gate, has graced Portland since its opening in November of 1986.

1988

1988: CCBA funds $10,000 canal exhibit at the Augusta Museum of History.

In October of 1988, at the signing of the Portland-Kaoshiung Sister City agreement in Taiwan, a colorful, one-hundred-fifty-foot dragon and four forty-foot Dragon Boats were presented to the Chinese community.

1989

The Dragon Boats rule the Willamette River annually in races that have become a Portland tradition since June 3 and 4, 1989, when the very first Dragon Boat Races in the United States were held as part of Portland’s Rose Festival.

1998

1998: The 1st edition of the CCBA membership directory was published.

2000

The official opening to the public was on September 14, 2000.

2001

2001: CCBA website established.

2005

The First Edition of the CCB Standards was released in May 2005 after a rigorous two-year devvelopment process based on input from community and environmental groups, companies, academics, project developers and others with expert knowledge or affected by the Standards.

2008

2008: 2nd edition of the CCBA Member Directory was published with family pictures added.

2010

Rules for the Use of the CCB Standards (21st June 2010)

2013

Draft of Third Edition of the CCB Standards (22nd March 2013)

2014

In late 2014 the Coca-Cola Company and SABMiller plc reached an agreement with Gutsche Family Investments (GFI), the majority shareholder of Coca-Cola Sabco, to combine the bottling operations of their non-alcoholic ready-to-drink beverages businesses in Southern and East Africa.

2020

CCBA is pursuing an ambitious growth strategy that is aligned with The Coca-Cola Company’s 2020 Vision and will be supported through investment in manufacturing, sales, distribution and marketing.
