Central Oregon Community College company history timeline

1949

The college was originally founded in 1949 making it almost a decade older than Clatsop Community College, the next oldest Community College in Oregon.

1962

In the spring of 1962, a 140-acre tract of land on the west side of Awbrey Butte was donated for the purposes of establishing COCC's main campus.

1983

1996

It first offered distance learning courses in 1996.

The late 1980s and 1990s saw the addition of the Boyle Education Center, the Barber Library and Newberry Hall. It first offered distance learning courses in 1996.

2000

2001

Cascades Hall, which originally housed Oregon State University - Cascades, opened in the fall of 2001.

2011

In 2011, COCC opened campuses in both Madras and Prineville, providing classes and services to residents of Jefferson and Crook Counties.

2012

COCC opened new state-of-the-art Health Careers and Science Centers on the Bend Campus in 2012, including labs for programs in nursing, dental assisting, medical assisting, massage therapy, pharmacy technician, veterinary technician, biology, chemistry, geology and physics.

2014

The newest building, the Technology Education Center, opened in Fall 2014.

2015

In the fall of 2015 the new 330 bed Wickiup Residence Hall opened bringing the Bend campus to 26 buildings.

The campus has a total of 26 different buildings, the most recently built being the residence hall in 2015.

2020

Financial Aid In 2020-21, approximately 47.5 percent of certificate/degree seeking students were awarded financial aid (scholarships grants or loans)
