City of Chester News and Information company history timeline

1866

Incorporated on October 31, 1701 as a Boro and as a city on February 14, 1866.

1892

Yet it was the community’s contention, as so stated in an address by Doctor Dunn to the leaders in May of 1892, the growing town needed a hospital to care for all people.

1893

After an impassioned appeal from several key local physicians including Jacob Price, Isaac Macy and Thomas Dunn, Chester County Hospital first opened its doors in 1893 as a small ten-bed dispensary located just a few hundred yards from its current location on Marshall Street in West Chester.

1960

In the 1960’s, Chester began to lose its mainstay shipyard and automobile manufacturing jobs.

1996

Since 1996, Chester has received 1.36 billion dollars in public and private investment.

2008

The University’s Faculty of Health and Social Care (FHSC) Historical Society was founded in 2008 to mark the 60th anniversary of the NHS and unites individuals with an interest in medicine, nursing, midwifery and social work across the University and the wider community.

2022
