1852

The first records of an election were in February 1852 and the first tax rate was $0.50 cents on the $100 valuation of real property.

1865

The company of 110 had eight men in rank when the Rifles were disbanded in February 1865.

1875

The Clinton Riot and other disorders in the state intimidated blacks and whites regained control of Mississippi state government in the November 1875 election, ending Reconstruction in Mississippi.

1877

The largest was a Tuesday night, March 2, 1877, that many said could be seen from 10 miles away.

1891

In 1891, the Baptist Convention voted to relocate Mississippi College from Clinton to Meridian, a move that would have been devastating to the town.

1927

The pilot was Charles Lindbergh, but the name didn't mean anything to the Ratliffs until 1927 after Lindbergh made his historic, non-stop flight from New York to Paris.
